Horse transport insurance: what is covered and what is not

Every transport service offered on Cavalotrans includes transport insurance, at no extra cost. Here is what it covers in practice, and what stays outside this cover.

What transport insurance covers

It covers the animal being transported for the whole journey, in addition to the third-party liability of the transporter and their vehicle. It follows the trip, including when crossing a border into one of the countries covered by the network.

What this insurance does not replace

It does not cover the horse's value in the event of illness or an accident outside transport, nor everyday vet bills. That is the role of dedicated equine insurance (mortality, vet fees), a separate subject from transport itself.

The details vary from one transporter to another

Cover limits, excess, specific exclusions: these are specific to each transporter in the network and are given to you with the quote, before you choose an offer. That is the time to ask your questions if something is unclear.

What about a trip between private owners, without a professional transporter?

The transport insurance included in a Cavalotrans quote applies to services from listed transporters. For a trip shared between private owners, each person remains responsible for checking their own cover (insurance for the towing vehicle, third-party liability) with their insurer.
